Some people like to go to the USA to relax. Others like to go see the sights or explore its vast nature. But each year, thousands of tourists head to the United States for one purpose, and one purpose only: shopping. Lots and lots of shopping. The USA is one of the most popular shopping destinations in the world, and it’s not difficult to see why. Its sheer size means its near impossible not to find what you’re looking for. At the same time, this means that it can be difficult to decide which place you want to visit. From cheap outlets to high-end luxury stores, here are five of the top shopping destinations for a trip to America.
1: New York City, New York
Whether you’re looking for high-end fashion or more affordable clothing, New York is the place to be. Regularly cited as one of the top fashion cities not just in the USA but in the world, the city has a wide catalogue of styles with matching prices. For the high-end stuff, you want to go to Fifth Avenue where all the big retail names like Goodman are located. On Madison Avenue, you can find the top names in designing like Prada and Armani. Those seeking to not spend as much during their holiday can go to Brooklyn and explore its famous flea markets.
2: Orlando, Florida
It would be difficult to pinpoint a single city in Florida that is best for shopping, but if we had to choose one it would probably be Orlando. Florida as a whole is a bargain shoppers dream, and Orlando’s Premium Outlets are especially known around the world. Of course, Orlando also has plenty to offer in terms of authentic designer clothes. For luxury shopping, one can also consider going to Sunny Isles Beach, where you can find some of the biggest luxury fashion malls in the US.
3: Nashville, Tennessee
While Nashville isn’t quite as big a name as New York or Orlando, it can certainly hold its head high in such esteemed company. What makes Nashville so special is that its fashion scene is closely intertwined with its music industry. This makes it so you can find some of the most unique fashion trends in the United States in Nashville.
4: Austin, Texas
Unlike Nashville, It’s hard to say what it is exactly that makes Austin so special. There is so much going on in the city that at times you might feel overwhelmed. From high-end fashion to cowboy hats and vintage shirts, the Lonestar State is a wild mix of designer fashion and vintage southern culture. If you want to get a proper taste of southern fashion, Austin is your destination.
5: Los Angeles, California
When it comes to naming the top fashion destination in the USA, two names are often at the top: New York and Los Angeles. Everyone has heard of Rodeo Drive, where you can find just about every top designer brand lining the streets. Most regular tourists likely won’t be able to afford the prices, but it can also be fun just to walk around and enjoy the scene (and maybe catch a celebrity or two). For more affordable wear shoppers can go to Melrose Avenue or York Boulevard.
Travelling to the USA: ESTA before your ticket
One of the reasons the United States is such a popular holiday destination for European tourists is that citizens of the European Union, as well as the United Kingdom and Ireland, don’t need a visa to travel to the country. They can instead apply for an ESTA, a special travel permit which works the same as a visa, in that it allows you to stay in the country for a set time. With an ESTA, this is 90 days in an overall validity period of two years. This means that during these two years, you can travel to the USA multiple times with the same ESTA, as long as each stay doesn’t last longer than 90 days.
